Femme bear, also known as bear femme, is a term used by some non-binary people to describe one's relationship with one's gender or gender expression, and sometimes one's sexual orientation as well. It is a combination of the terms femme and bear.
Examples of femme bear culture and identity include:
- having a non-normative gender expression
- presenting androgynously or being lingender
- wanting to be perceived as both a masculine man and a feminine woman (but not a feminine man or maculine woman)
- having a fluid gender presentation
- having connection to both womanhood and manhood
- being multisexual/pluralian
- relating to or identifying with both achillean and sapphic communities, labels, and/or culture
- being omnigay
Not all femme bears experience their identities in the same way, and that is important to keep in mind. The traits listed above are only examples, and they don't apply to every femme bear.
The counterpart to femme bear is butch twink.
