Transmasculine is sometimes used, not as a gender identity, but as a way to describe anyone who is assigned female at birth and undergoes masculinization, either through surgery, hormones replacement therapy, or other methods. Under this definition women who take testosterone to attempt to appear more masculine would be considered transmasculine. |

Transmasculine or trans-masc is a gender identity where one was assigned female at birth (AFAB), but identifies fully or partially as a man or another gender(s) with significant amounts of masculinity. Transmasculine people can also identify as other, non-masculine genders as well. For example, an AFAB androgyne person may identify as transmasculine. Though typically one's masculine identities are more significant that one's non-masculine identities. Trans masculine people are sometimes called FtM or F2M (female to male).
Some transmasculine people include:
- Binary trans men.
- Demiboys who are AFAB.
- AFAB genderfluid people who identify as male or masculine more often then other genders (such as marfluid, genderfaun or genderfaunet).
- Solarians who are AFAB.
- Any other AFAB non-binary person who is male aligned, or leans towards masculinity.
The feminine equivalent to transmasculine is transfeminine and the neutral equivalent is transneutral.
