Revision as of 01:22, 1 June 2021 by wikia:lgbta>Queermemes1312 (Gender identities should not be based on AGAB. Feminine ≠ female, I cannot stress this enough as an AFAB transfem person.)

Transfeminine or transfem is a term used to describe a transgender person who typically was assigned male at birth (AMAB) and identifies fully or partially as a feminine gender. It can be considered an umbrella term for people who are trans and identify with feminine gender identities more so than anything else.

Transfeminine people can also identify as other, non-feminine genders as well. For example, an androgyne person may identify as transfeminine, though typically one's feminine identities are more significant that one's non-feminine identities, or one wants to emphasize their feminine identity. Transfeminine people are sometimes called MtF or M2F (male to female), however, this isn't quite accurate as not all transfeminine people are trans women.

Transfeminine people are typically AMAB, although they can be of any assigned gender at birth. However, AFAB trans people who identify with a feminine gender may prefer to identify as intrafeminine or adfeminine, as these are identities more specific to them.

Transfeminine is sometimes used, not as a gender identity, but as a way to describe anyone who is assigned male at birth and undergoes femininization, either through surgery, hormone replacement therapy, or other methods. Under this definition men who take hormones to attempt to appear more feminine would be considered transfeminine.

The masculine equivalent to transfeminine is transmasculine. The neutral equivalent is transneutral.

    Examples

Some examples of genders that many transfeminine people may identify as include:

    Transition

Many transfeminine people will try to present in a traditionally feminine way. This can include having long hair, wearing traditionally feminine clothes, and wearing makeup. They may wear breast forms to give the appearance of breasts. Some will tuck, which is the act of pushing the testicles back into the body and pushing or taping the penis back, to get rid of the bulge created by the penis. This can be dangerous to do for extended amounts of time, and it may be impossible for some trans fem people as their body might not allow them to fully push their testicles back into their body.

Medical transition typically involves taking testosterone blocking medication and estrogen, in the form of pills, injections, or gel. Surgical elements can include a vaginoplasty to create a vagina, and sometimes breast implants. Breast implants are sometimes not necessary though, as estrogen will cause breast growth. Some trans feminine people will get facial feminization surgery and many will undergo laser hair removal.

A transfeminine person may do all, some, or none of these things. Some may not feel a need to transition and some may be unable to transition due to medical reasons.

    Flag

The most common transfeminine flag was created by an unknown person on or before July 4, 2015.[1] The flag has no confirmed meaning, but uses the same shades of pink and blue on the transgender flag.

A common alternate transmasculine flag was created by DeviantArt user Prideflags on June 14, 2016.[2][3]

An alternate flag was created by an unknown reddit user on December 28, 2019.[4]

An alternate flag was created by Tumblr user frankenfaggot on or before November 8, 2020. The flag has no confirmed meaning but is based on the idea that the moon is feminine.[5]
