Transfeminine, or transfem, is an umbrella term for individuals whose gender is partially or fully feminine, and does not correspond with their birth sex/AGAB, or otherwise conform to conventional notions of sex and gender^[1]. This includes trans women, whose gender is in some way feminine. Some transfem individuals may be apollafem.

Transfeminine individuals can also identify as other, non-feminine genders as well. For example, an androgyne individual may identify as transfeminine, though typically one's feminine identities are more significant that one's non-feminine identities, or one wants to emphasize their feminine identity. Transfeminine individuals are sometimes called MtF or M2F (male to female) (however, this isn't always accurate as not all transfeminine individuals are binary trans women), some prefer FtF or F2F.

Transfeminine individuals are typically AMAB, though they may also possibly be AXAB or UAB. An AFAB individual may also identify as Transfeminine if their assigned gender or sex is not the same as their gender identity. A simple example of this is an AFAB who identifies as a Demigirl. However a Transfeminine AFAB may also identify as intrafeminine and/or adfeminine.

Transfeminine is sometimes used, not as a gender identity, but as a way to describe anyone who is assigned male at birth and undergoes femininization, either through surgery, hormone replacement therapy, or other methods. Under this definition men who take hormones to attempt to appear more feminine would be considered transfeminine.

The masculine equivalent to transfeminine is transmasculine. The neutral equivalent is transneutral. The androgynous equivalent is transandrogynous. The xenine equivalent is transxenine. The aporine equivalent is transaporine. The outherine equivalent is transoutherine.

Some examples of genders that transfeminine individuals may identify as include:

Non-binary women
Demigirls
Genderfluid individuals who identify as feminine more often than other genders.
Juxeras
Lunarians
Lunettians
Venusians
Any other non-binary individual who is feminine-aligned, woman-aligned, or leans towards femininity.

Transition

Many transfeminine individuals will try to present in a traditionally feminine way. This can include having long hair, wearing traditionally feminine clothes, and wearing makeup. They may wear breast forms to give the appearance of breasts. Some will tuck, which is the act of pushing the testicles back into the body and pushing or taping the penis back, to get rid of the bulge created by the penis. This can be dangerous to do for extended amounts of time, and it may be impossible for some transfeminine individuals as their body might not allow them to fully push their testicles back into their body.

Medical transition typically involves taking testosterone blocking medication and estrogen, in the form of pills, injections, or gel. Surgical elements can include a vaginoplasty to create a vagina, and sometimes breast implants. Breast implants are sometimes not necessary though, as estrogen will cause breast growth. Some transfeminine individuals will get facial feminization surgery and many will undergo laser hair removal.

A transfeminine individual may do all, some, or none of these things. Some may not feel a need to transition and some may be unable to transition due to medical reasons.

The most common transfeminine flag was created by an unknown individual on or before July 4, 2015.^[2] The flag has no confirmed meaning, but uses the same shades of pink and blue on the transgender flag.
