    History and Flags

The term and flag were created by Tumblr user sapphicchillean on June 29, 2018.[1] The term originally excluded WLM (women or women-aligned people loving men) and MLW (men or men-aligned people loving women).

The light blue of the flag represents the fluid relationship between gender and attraction, the dark blue MLM and NBLM, the yellow non-binary gender and attraction, the light pink the softness of gender and attraction, and the dark pink WLW and WLNB.

An alternate bigender-specific version of this flag was created by Tumblr user just-a-mogai-blog was created on July 10, 2018.[2]

On April 4, 2020, the current sapphic achillean flag was created by Reddit user zamonianbolton.[3] It is a combination of the achillean and sapphic flags.

An alternate version based on this flag was created by Reddit user ohyourearoach on July 29, 2020.[4] The light and dark blue stripes are from the achillean flag and represent masculine-aligned people loving masculine-aligned people, the white stripe represents gender experiences that are fluid and genderqueer, and the light and dark pink stripes are from the sapphic flag and represent feminine-aligned people loving feminine-aligned people. The symbol in the center is the overlapping flowers of the achillean and sapphic flags.
