    The oshian flag

Oshian is a label that is exclusive to black NBLW and WLW individuals.

Similar terms include sapphic, faunic, daunic, neptunic or lesbian.

    Etymology

The term was inspired by the name of the African river goddess Oshun. She is an important deity in Yoruba spirituality. She was the only goddess of 17 gods sent to populate the Earth, and the only one to succeed. She is considered one of the most powerful gods and is associated with water, purity, fertility, love, and sensuality.

    History

The term was coined by Twitter user @mochamoons on a currently unknown date. It was created because black WLW and NBLW felt excluded from the sapphic label, noticing that it was dominated by white people and wanted a label that was their own and they felt a connection to.

    Flag

The flag was created by Twitter user @dazzleyeri on a currently unknown date. According to its creator, the meanings of the colors of the flag are the following: The vivid orange stands for the love for women, the light orange stands for sensuality, the very light orange stands for purity, the very soft yellow/eggshell white stands for gender non-conformity, the light brown stands for diversity, the moderate brown stands for the African diaspora, and the dark brown stands for blackness.
