Melangender (not to be confused with melagender, melgender or melogender) is a mixture of squashgender, genderfocus, gendersoup & plaisgender. Melangender is a subset of multigender. Melangender can have multiple definitions, one may identify with all of these definitions, or a multitude of them:

• One who is melangender may feel as if they have a more prominent gender at times rather than constantly being multiple genders at once. (These prominent genders could also be any of the mixture of genders: squashgender, genderfocus, gendersoup & plaisgender.)

• They may feel as if certain things affect their prominent gender: this could range from certain activities they do, to hobbies or anything else.
• They could also feel as if some of their multiple yet static genders are ‘blurred’ in a sense or mashed together. However, there is still a distinction between some of their labels.
• One may feel like their multiple gender labels have been ‘squashed’ together but are still able to distinguish their multiple labels.

The aligned counterparts of melangender are mefangender (feminine aligned), memangender (masculine aligned), menangender (neutral aligned) and mexangender (xenic aligned).

History

Melangender was coined on the 5th of May 2021 by Reddit user u/hiitsyaz. The name for melangender comes from the word ‘melange’, which means ‘a varied mixture’.

The flag was made on 12th of May 2021 by Reddit user u/hiitsyaz. The flag is a mixture of the colours within the flags for the terms which make up melangender.
