Cupiosexual, previously known as Kalossexual, is a micro-label on the asexual spectrum. Cupiosexual is defined as someone who does not experience sexual attraction but still desires/likes a sexual relationship. Cupiosexuals are commonly sex-favorable but they do not have to be. Cupiosexual may also be used by people who sometimes feel sexual attraction but desire a sexual relationship even without attraction, for example, a demisexual person who dates someone on the assumption that they will develop sexual attraction later on. Another example could be a fraysexual person who dates someone after they lose their sexual attraction.
The romantic equivalent is cupioromantic. the opposite of cupiosexual is orchidsexual.
History
Kalossexual was coined by Tumblr user acelyssie on or before June 16, 2014.[1] It is unknown when the term was changed to cupiosexual.
Flag
The flag was designed by an unknown person on or before July 4, 2015. The color meaning is unknown.[2]
The alternate flag by Fandom user Mothfree were designed in September 2021. The darker pink represents love, the lighter pink represents lack of attraction, the white represents relationships, the lighter purple represents sexuality, and the darker purple represents sex.
Etymology
The prefix cupio- comes from the Latin word cupio, meaning "to desire" or "to long for".
