Tone Indicators are anything in the form of shortened text accompanied by a forward slash (/) to indicate the tone and emotion of a message. Neurodivergent people often times have trouble conveying and understanding emotion or tone of messages. Through written text, it becomes harder to understand tone due to a lack of voice, body language and facial expressions. Even some Neurotypical people struggle to grasp the emotion or tone of text messages.
