Unit Aro is a subset of aromantic meaning one feels aromantic as a single unit. This unit can contain whatever one feels is A unit aro could use aromantic as a single unit because their aromantic identity is the only one that matters, or because their the aromantic label captures their experiences best. The term was created as an alternative to non-SAM aro, and many unit aros do not use the split attraction model, however unit aro is an umbrella terms and can be used by any aromantic person so long as their aromantic identity is their most important identity.
Similarly the term unit aroace can be used to describe one whose aromantic and asexual identities cannot be separated.
History
The term unit aro was coined by Tumblr user Aro-neir-o on May 17, 2019 in a discussion about alternatives to the term non-SAM aro[1]. Some of the terms previously suggested include unicus aro, unicum aro, and primaro.
