Travestigênere, also written travestigender, travestigêner, transvestigender, or transvestigênere, is a Brazilian third gender identity that unifies the concepts of transsexual, transgender and travesti (in a sense transvestic. Unlike travesti, travestigênere is also open to transmasculine people.
History and Flag
The term was coined by Indianara Siqueira and Erika Hilton[1] on or before December 15, 2015.[2] The purpose of a cooperative trans identity is to decolonize the Brazilian concept of gender.[3]
The current definition of travestigênere and the travestigênere pride flag were created by Tumblr user arquivo-pluris on October 15, 2020.[4] The last three stripes of the travestigênere pride flag are a reference to the trans pride flag.
