Straight queer, also known as heteroqueer and queerhet, rarely hetroqueer, is the experience of identifying as both queer and straight. This term may include
- amplusic people with one or more of their orientations being hetero-
- demi-heterosexual or demi-heteromantic people
- a straight trans or non-binary person
- varioriented people with one or more identity being hetero- (including heteroromantic asexual and aromantic heterosexual)
- strayt, contraic, enanteic or another form of "straight non-binary" person
- straight people in a queer relationship
- heteroflexible people
- “straight now but not forever” or “straight but with exceptions” people
- straight polyamorous people.
However, not everyone who has a straight queer experience identifies with the term.
History and Flag
Historically, the term "straightqueer" was slang for a gay person presenting themselves in a metropolitan and "straight-passing" way.[1] By the early 2000s, the term and its known variations also applied to (assumed) straight people in queer meeting spaces.[2]
The current definition and first heteroqueer flag was created by Tumblr user beyond-mogai-pride-flags on June 29, 2019.[3] A simplified version of their flag was created by FANDOM user Homesick Moonstone on December 16, 2020.
The queerhet flag was created by Tumblr user xenogender-aligned on December 19, 2020.[4] The flag is a combination of the queer chevron flag’s style and colors with the straight flag’s monochrome color scheme. The different shades represent the vast spectrum of experiences queerhet can include.
An alternate queerhet flag was created by Reddit user potaTARDIS_ on March 22, 2021.[5]
