Selenian is a subset of lunarian that describes a non-binary person who is woman-aligned (or female-aligned, girl-aligned, or gal-aligned) or otherwise has a connection to womanhood. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Those who are partially women.
- Those who are connected to womanhood without necessarily being a woman.
- Someone whose gender experiences are similar to that of a woman.
Selenian only specifies that one is woman-aligned, one does not necessarily have to be feminine-aligned (artemian) as well.
The male equivalent is helian.
History
Selenian was coined by Tumblr user Neopronouns on February 9, 2021.[1] The term was created because lunarian encompasses a wide spectrum of identities, including both female-aligned identities and feminine-aligned identities. Selenian was created as a subset of lunarian for those who want to further specify that they are woman-aligned (and may or may not be feminine-aligned).
Flag
The flag was created at the same time as the term. The flag has no confirmed meaning but is based off the appearance of other galacian alignment flag. It is also blue, such that when combined with the artemian flag (pink) is would result in the solarian flag (purple). The symbol was added by Tumblr user genderstalgia on February 21, 2021.[2] It uses a crescent moon, similar to lunarian. Crescent moons are also a symbol for the Greek goddess Selene.
