Platonic attraction is a form of attraction typically felt by a-spec individuals. It is defined as the desire to form a close platonic relationship (friendship) with a specific person- or to form a closer friendship if one already knows the other person. The type of friendship desired typically goes beyond casual friends and revolves around a willingness to engage in a very deep symbiotic friendship, and sharing interests and experiences.

Platonic attraction can sometimes overlap with queerplatonic attraction, with the difference being that queerplatonic attraction is often more intense and is more focused on physical intimacy. Platonic attraction can sometimes turn into queerplatonic attraction, and for some people platonic and queerplatonic attract are one and the same.

Platonic attraction is not simply the desire to have friends. Rather it is an intense desire to be close friends with someone specific. One might feel intimidated or flustered when around this specific person.

A platonic crush is called a squish. People who do not develop squishes may call themselves aplatonic.
