Philosexual is the embodiment of “the heart wants what the heart wants”. Philosexuals do not care what gender or sex they are attracted too, BUT they may not experience attraction to certain genders, or any gender at all. Philosexual people are open to the idea of being with any gender or sex, but don’t always feel drawn to anyone of that identity. The term philosexual can be used in many ways, such as:
- An umbrella term for anyone with a flexible sexuality (e.g. A gay man who has never experienced any sort of attraction to any gender but men, BUT would not be opposed to the idea that he COULD one day.)
- A placeholder for people who are questioning their identity. Once they find one that fits them better, they drop the philosexual label
- A stepping stone. Similar to the one before this, their sexuality may change. But this would be because they discovered that they fit better under a different label NOT because they were questioning, but because their feelings toward certain genders dissipated.
- A fixed identity of its own. This would be people who are ok with whoever they fall for, but don’t know precisely who that would be.
