Pov or POV (pronounced pah-v) is an acronym standing for "people of vaginas.'" This is a term for anyone who has a vagina, and is made to be less gender based. This term includes cisgender women, some intersex individuals, some non-binary and anonbinary individuals, transgender women who have had sex reassignment surgery, transine men, many transsex/altergender men, and possibly pre-transitioning trans men.
This term is made to combat the ideology that having a vagina is what makes one a woman, and is made promote gender-neutral language and terms. This term can also stand for "person of (a) vagina" if one wishes to refer to another person or themself as a pov. This term was also made for more simplicity in describing genitallia in medical situations, such as sex education, as saying 'female' would leave out many intersex and trans individuals.
This term alternatively could be used to mean "people of vulvas" which would be more inclusive to specific intersex conditions.
A term similar to this is müllerian, however this term is more specific to having every trait of a female, not just a vagina, thus leaving out intersex and altersex individuals. One who is müllerian is also a POV, although one who is a POV is not always wolffian.
History
The term Pov was coined by Cryptocrew on March 13th of 2021 in order to help relieve dysphoria and discomfort in many genderqueer individuals.
