Lightninggender, also known as flashgender, is a xenogender where one is mostly neutral but experiences small, seemingly random flashes of their gender. Depending on if they feel feminine, masculine, androgynous, neutral, or xenine, it subdivides into lightningfem, lightningmasc, lightningneu, lightningandrogy, and lightningxeno.

    Lightningfem

Lightningfem is a subset of lightninggender where one's gender comes in at random flashes and has some connection to femininity.

    Lightningmasc

Lightningmasc is a subset of lightninggender where one's gender comes in at random flashes, and has some connection to masculinity.

    Lightningneu

Lightningneu is a subset of lightninggender where one's gender comes in at random flashes and has some connection to neutrality.

    Lightningandrogy

Lightningandrogy is a subset of lightninggender where one's gender comes in at random flashes and has some connection to androgyny.

    Lightningxeno

Lightningxeno is a subset of lightninggender where one's gender comes in at random flashes and has some connection to xeninity.

    Flag and History

Lightninggender, as well as the subsets lightningfem, lightningmasc, and lightningneu, were coined by user ReversedServers on Scratch on June 3rd, 2021, and their flags were created by the same user on the same date.[1] The subsets lightningandrogy and lightningxeno were later coined by the same user, via this article, and their flags were created via the same scratch project where lightninggender and its other subsets were originally coined.[2]

    Etymology

The prefix lightning- comes from the English word lightning, which is a biological phenomenon that happens in small flashes. The suffix -gender has an obvious meaning, though combined with the prefix it means "flashing gender" which is similar to flashgender, alternate name for the term.
