Lanum (previously known as Ilan) is one of the base metals from the alloy alignment system based on platinum. It represents a gender that is, to some degree, androgynous in nature. It can mean that one's gender is in between masculine and feminine, or is a combination of the two. Examples include ambonec and androgyne. How one expresses or experiences their gender is defined by them. A lanum person can have any alignment or presentation.

    The lanum flag.

    History

Lanum was originally coin on December 1, 2018 by Hail, the original owner of the Tumblr blog lgbt-alchemy[1]. At the time it is was called known as ilan and the plural form was ilum. On December 19, 2019 the alloy alignment system was reworked by Tired, the new owner of the blog[2]. In this rework the name of the term was change to lanum. It's unknown what the plural form of the new term would be.

The flag is based on the color of faded platinum, as well as being the color normally associated with being in between male and female. The symbol used is the first alchemical symbol for platinum. The reason platinum was chosen is because platinum was originally called "white gold" and was seen as a combination of gold (aur) and silver (aren).
