Gender dissonance is a form of cognitive dissonances experienced due to a misalignment of one’s subconscious and physical sexes.[1]
Dissonance differs somewhat from the psychiatric term dysphoria, which typically conflates this dissonant cognitivity (discomfort) regarding one’s sex with the mental stresses that arise from societal pressure to traditionally conform to cultural gender norms.[2]
