Cross-aligned is when one has a gender presentation that does not align with their gender identity. For example: someone who is masculine aligned, but likes to dress femininely. This is often seen across many genders, often causing misunderstanding and misgendering. Cross-aligned people have been around for centuries; one example is traditional Femminiello individuals, who identify as men but present in a feminine mannerism.

Cross-aligned people may feel more comfortable in clothes that do not align with their gender, or they may be antibinary, rejecting damaging gender-roles through clothes. Cross-aligned women are more common then cross-aligned men, due to stigma around feminine men. Butch lesbians are often seen as cross-aligned.
