Clitoromegaly or macroclitoris is condition in which one has a clitoris larger than expected, possibly resembling a small penis.[1][2] This is a description, rather than a diagnosis. It can be congenital or acquired. This is typically a result of exposure to testosterone in AFAB individuals, either in the womb or later in life. If it is congenital or is caused by a natural hormonal imbalance it can be considered a condition of intersex and a form of ambiguous genitalia.
Acquired clitoromegaly is often seen in transgender men on hormone replacement therapy, and female athletes who use androgens to enhance muscular growth. Animals can also have these conditions, however within animals it is called a pseudo-penis.
History
It is unknown when this was first discovered, however it has had many notable cases within the 2000s.
