Butterflygender is a xenogender that feels small, but also moves about, just as a butterfly would. It also can be used to describe a gender connected to butterflies. It was coined by Twitter user @enbylumity on June 30th, 2020.[1]

The flag's stripes represent "complex relationships with gender, fluidity, freedom, gender non-conformity, smallness, variety, and comfort." The colors were based off of the wings of blue morpho and monarch butterflies.
