Arretasexual is a sexuality on the asexual spectrum in which one feels sexual attraction, or stronger sexual attraction, to a individual who gives them attention. If another individual gives this individual new attention or more attention, the individuals attraction to the previous individual may fade or dull, and they will become more attracted to the new individual. If nobody is giving said individual consistent/constant attention, their attraction will fade completely, or may weakly remain until an individual gives them attention again. This identity could have been caused by trauma such as neglect, but it is not exclusive to people with trauma.
The romantic counterpart to arretasexual is arretaromantic. The combination of the two is Arretaroace.
History
Arretasexual was coined along with arretaromantic by FANDOM user MentallyUnstableQueer on January 27th, 2020 to describe his own feelings.[1] Both the main and alternate arretasexual flags were designed by FANDOM user Reign of the breadsticcs on April 3, 2021.
Etymology
The prefix arreta- comes from the word "attention" in Basque.
