Aroflux is a romantic orientation on the aromantic spectrum. It is defined as someone whose romantic orientation fluctuates but generally stays on the aromantic spectrum. An aroflux person may feel very strongly aromantic one day and less aromantic another day, they might feel demiromantic or greyromantic at times. Some aroflux people may feel like they are alloromantic at times.

Aroflux can be a romantic orientation on its own or can combined with other orientations. For example, one could be aroflux and homoromantic, meaning that when one does experience romantic attraction it's only towards people of the same gender. Aroflux may overlap with abroromantic, however the difference is that for someone who is abroromantic the gender(s) they are attracted to may change. Generally, for aroflux people, when they feel attraction the gender(s) they're attracted to are always the same, only how they're attracted to them or how intensely they're attracted to them changes.

The sexual counterpart to aroflux is aceflux.

    Flag

The aroflux flag consists of five stripes making a gradient between red and green. Red represents alloromantics and green represents aromantics. The gradient represents how aroflux people can move from feeling strongly aromantic to strongly alloromantic.

An alternative flag was created on 16th February 2020 by Tumblr user the-circus.[1] It features similar colours and keeps the original flag's meaning but aims to remove the eyestrain that the orignal flag caused for some people.

Another alternative flag was created on 14th January 2021 by Fandom user Starri-Niqht.[1] It uses pink to represent feeling strongly alloromantic, black to represent lack of romantic attraction, and grey to represent a middle ground between the two.

    Etymology

Aro- is short for aromantic and -flux is a suffix used for orientations or genders that can change, and is short for fluctuating.
