Nonaesthetic, also known as A-aesthetic or Anaesthetic, is a form of attraction where one does not feel aesthetic attraction towards any gender. One can still be romantically or sexually attracted to someone, but their attraction does not revolve around one's appearance.

One may abbreviate the term Anaesthetic to Ana, but this may be problematic as "ana" is a term for people who treat anorexia like a healthy lifestyle/dietary choice and glamorize it rather than spreading positivity for people with the disorder to seek help, support, and recovery.

    History

One of the earliest known uses of the term "aesthetic attraction" among asexuals was in 2005, on the AVEN forums. Since then it has been commonly included in lists of subtypes of attraction. It is unknown when nonaesthetic attraction was brought up.
