Androgen Resistance

Androgen Resistance or Androgen insensitivity syndrome is a rare intersex trait affecting 1/20,000 to 1/64,000 AMAB or CTM individuals, causing one to be more resistant to androgens such as testosterone. This can be a partial, mild, or complete resistance, and generally causes reduction in masculine biological traits.

This can happen because of defects in the testicles or hypogonadism.This also can sometimes effect those with ambiguous genitalia, as they may produce little to no testosterone. In some cases, those with this condition may have vaginal traits, or may be on the agenital spectrum.

This may also cause them to also fall under aromatase excess syndrome.

Mild Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome

Mild androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (MAIS) is a less intense version of androgen resistance, in which some androgens are produced, but still not the same amount as an average male. This causes some feminization of their sex traits, however less so than full Androgen Resistance.

Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome

Partial androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (PAIS) is a less intense version of androgen resistance, in which androgens are mostly produced, however some are not, which causes slight differences in what would otherwise be an average male development. This causes small feminization within their sex traits, however not as intense as full Androgen Resistance or MAIS.
