Aldernic is an umbrella term for people who have, or wish to have, a body that deviates from what is expected in society, or typical human notions. Aldernic may refer to fictional characters who have a different type of body from humans, but it may also be used by people who desire a body that does not match the norm of any existing body, or is not possible by human standards.
Generally, it will define people who do not feel as though they fit into a “male” or “female” body, and instead desire an ambiguous, nonhuman, or other non-traditional body. It may refer to someone’s “true” body, whether because of alterhumanity, gender nonconformity, xenic identity, or anything else. It can also define someone’s physical body, internal identity, or both.
Aldernic is not connected to being intersex, and does not make someone “between perisex and intersex”; aldernic and intersex are separate from each other and should not be conflated.
Aldergiest
Aldergeist is a subterm for nonhuman individuals who desire a distinctly "humanoid" body.
This may include animals with humanoid features, such as anthropomorphs, humanoid ghosts, spirits, angels, demons, mythological & fantasy creatures such as satyrs/centaurs/minotaur, selkies, mermaids, fairies/fae, vampires, werewolves, zombies, as well as puppets, marionettes, dolls, statues and other humanoid "objects".
Alderciet
Alderciet is a subterm for nonhuman individuals who desire a distinctly "non-humanoid" body.
This may include non-humanoid animals, objects, plants, non-humanoid ghosts, spirits, angels, demons, as well as mythological/fantasy creatures such as dragons, unicorns/alicorns/pegasi, chimeras and griffins.
Alderitch
Alderciet is a subterm for nonhuman individuals who desire a body that is ambiguous or unknowable or individuals whose form/desires can be defined as fluctuating between aldercied & aldergeist.
This may include those with unobservable, ever-changing, and incomprehensible forms such as eldritch creatures, biblically accurate angels/demons, gods/deities, & shapeshifters.
Aldermafe
Aldermafe is a subterm for those who either have, or wish to have a feminine body that they view as male aligned / connected in any way. This may be due to transitioning, gender, or any other connection.
Alderfema
Alderfema is a subterm for those who either have, or wish to have a masculine body that they view as female aligned / connected in any way. This may be due to transitioning, gender, or any other connection.
Aldergyn
Aldergyn is a subterm for for individuals who wish to have an androgynous body.
History
The term aldernic was coined by Tumblr blog kenochoric on May 11, 2021. The term aldernic was coined as an alternative to altersex/alteradic. The flag was created at the same time.[1]
Aldergiest[2], alderciet[3] and alderitch[4] were coined by Tumblr blog mogaicemetery on May 12, 2021, along with their respective flags.
Aldermafe[5], alderfema[6], and aldergyn[7] were coined by Tumblr blog beidekeit on May 12, 2021, along with their respective flags.
