    User:Virgildoesgae/How To Make A Page

If you find yourself looking at the wiki, thinking "I really wish I could add my term to this, but making a page is way too hard and overwhelming and I'm so scared I'll do something wrong", I gotchu.

There's a couple things to take note of before you start, and I suggest you read ChaoticCylinder's guide on term coining if it's a new term you're adding. If you've done that already, or you don't think you need to, keep reading.

Read the Guidelines, of course. I won't blame you if you don't though, they're pretty long. Here's the most important points.

    1. Source your stuff properly.
    2. Write a proper page including a section on history and etymology and, where available, the flag.
    3. Be considerate, i.e. don't say anything that would get you banned on wikipedia.
    4. Put the sources in the references section at the bottom, and any flags in infoboxes on the right.

If you stick to those and you should be golden.

So. With all that in mind, go over to this lovely little link here and make your beautiful new page. It'll ask you to select a page to edit, but don't worry about that. Just put the name of the page you wanna make in, hit enter, and it'll take you to the creation window.

    1. Description: Now you're here, write a brief little description of your term. What's it about? What does it feel like? Is there any sort of analogy you could use to describe it? Any terms similar to it, or anything a potential reader could get it confused with?
    2. History: When was this term made? Was it you who made it or someone else? Where's the coining post, if there is one?
    3. Etymology: Tell us a little about the origin of this term. Why is it called what it is? What else could it have been called? This one's more optional, but always really interesting to read.
    4. Flag: If there's isn't much to talk about with the flag, you can roll this into the History section - I wouldn't advise that, though. Talk about how the flag was made, and when it was made. Talk about any other flags that have been made, and what the colours on each flag could mean.
    5. Resources: As you go through the page, make sure to cite any sites you want to link to with the wiki's built-in function. Make sure they're properly archived, unless the creator doesn't want them to be.

When all that's done, hit the button to save the page and an admin will look over it. If it's all good, your page will show up on the wiki as soon as it's approved. If there's an issue with it we'll probably fix it up for you, or let you know on your usertalk or via email so you can sort it out.

As always, if you have any questions, see the contact section of my Userpage. I'd be happy to clear it up for you.

See Jeb's version for a more comprehensive version of this - this is my simplified version, which should be a bit easier to read and understand.
