Unit Aro is an umbrella term for an aro identity experienced as a single unit. For example, a person on the aromantic spectrum might identify as a unit aro if...

    • They identify as aro, and they do not identify with any other orientation type (such as sexual orientation)
    • They identify as aro most, and so "aro" stands for their experiences best
    • They prefer "aro" over other parts of their identity

See also aro neu, aro ace, and quoisexual.

    History

The term unit aro was coined by Tumblr user Aro-neir-o on May 17, 2019 in a discussion about alternatives to the term non-SAM.[1][2] Some of the terms suggested within the same conversation include unicus aro, unicum aro, and primaro.
