Stebaonic is not a gender itself but describes a person whose neurodivergence (specifically hyperfixations or special interests) affects how they experience gender incongruence or gender identity. One does not have to experience all types of gender incongruence to identify as stebaonic.
History
The term was coined by Tumblr user shitbrainratface on June 2, 2019.[1]
Flag
The flag was created by Tumblr user shitbrainratface on or before July 9, 2019.[2] The blue represents serenity, peace, and stability from neutral incongruence. Green represents growth, strength, and healing from dysphoria. White represents self acceptance of one's own neurodivergence and how it may affect one's gender experience. Yellow represents excitement, energy, and joy from euphoria. Pink represents love, community, and positivity towards those with unique trans experiences. The more complex flag symbolizes that a lot of these lines are blurred. Some neurodivergent people can't tell if what they're feeling is euphoria or just easing dysphoria. Some neurodivergent people can't accurately describe their gender experience and may need to use concepts, animals, or objects to describe it.[3]
Etymology
"Ste-" comes from steréosi, which is Greek for "fixation." The suffix "-baonic" was coined by Tumblr user constellation-of-queer and comes from the Greek word for "base."
