== History ==
It is currently unknown who originally coined the term aphrodite lesbian specifically. A quote from Tumblr blog aphroditelesbians of Judith M Glassgold from April 19, 2018 alludes its term:<ref>https://aphroditelesbians.tumblr.com/post/159770989498/aphrodite-lesbians</ref><blockquote>''When we think of the widely erotic, physical, and orgasmic dimension, we are imagining an Aphroditic lesbianism. In the sphere of Aphrodite we learn to celebrate the particular modes of sexual gratification that only women can give one another and that women can only receive from one another. The intensity of connection, the intimacy of touch, which come from knowing the other’s body because of our deep knowledge of our own, which comes from discovering our own body through our exploration of another woman’s; the joyful experiencing of a lovemaking whose pace is fully governed by female rhythms, whose climaxes are foundly familiar - these are Aphrodite’s gifts.''</blockquote>

An aphrodite lesbian flag was featured on Tumblr user plurgai's account. It has an unknown meaning and it is not known if the user originally created this flag or not, but it seems to be one of the most recognised.
On September 8th 2020, another aphrodite lesbian flag was coined by Tumblr user
Two other aphrodite lesbian flags were then made on August 20th, 2021, by Tumblr user icarusoblivion and FANDOM user TheNelsonSystem inspired by the bambi lesbian flag and colour pallets associated with Aphrodite.
