Semisexual is an identity that is similar to greysexual and other identities under the greysexual umbrella. Multiple definitions are currently in use.

    1. Someone who falls between fully asexual and fully allosexual.
    2. Someone who does not feel sexual attraction but has a libido.
    3. Someone who experiences sexual attraction and possibly qualifies as allosexual by definition, but finds asexuality and/or greysexuality a useful and relevant concept to describe one's orientation, experiences, or feelings in some way.
    4. Someone who does not experience sexual attraction and qualifies as asexual by definition, but finds greysexuality and/or allosexuality a useful and relevant concept to describe one's orientation, experiences, or feelings in some way.

    History

The first definition of semisexual was coined on October 27, 2003 by AVEN user and founder David Jay. He acknowledged that there was no term at the time for those who fell between fully asexual and fully allosexual and coined semisexual to account for the gap. Due to a lack of concrete definition and limited usage of the term, semisexual was replaced with the coining of graysexual in 2006.[1]

The second and third definitions were posted to Urban Dictionary by user brokendarling on May 20, 2015[2] Similar definitions have been recorded since as early as 2012.[3]

The fourth definition was coined before February 23, 2017.[4] This inspired the fifth definition, which evolved into use from an unknown source sometime after.

    Flag

Since semisexual can be a synonym for greysexual, the greysexual flag may be used to represent semisexuality. A flag specifically for semisexual was designed on November 14, 2017 by Tumblr user galaxxysocks.[5]. This inspired a similar flag was created June 22, 2018 by Tumblr user arco-pluris.[6] An alternate flag was designed on January 31, 2021 by LGBTA wikia user OHappiDay. It is based on the allo flag, but with purple stripes representing asexuality.[7]
