Semi-SAM describes someone who does not always or fully use the split attraction model (SAM) to describe their orientation(s). Someone who is semi-SAM may have a fluctuating relationship with the SAM, only using it when they feel that it applies to them, or when it feels necessary to convey a specific experience or identity. For example, a semi-SAM who usually calls themselves just aro or bi aro may identify as a bisexual aro when their bisexuality feels present and/or relevant. Some semi-SAMs claim labels for multiple types of attraction, but view one attraction type as most important in their identity, or they only actively identify with labels for one attraction despite their connection to the others.

The semi-SAM label is most commonly used by aspecs, such as semi-SAM aros and semi-SAM aces, but the term can also be used by allosexual alloromantics.

    History

Semi-SAM was coined by Tumblr user black-aros on March 24, 2019.[1]
