Parabagender is a fictigender based on the concept of parabatai from the Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare. In the books, the parabatai bond is the closest bond of love and friendship between two people, and can only be attained from both genuine love and a sacred bonding ceremony. Parabatai are then bound for life in every way and are loyal and loving to each other. That closeness, and the oaths of loyalty, protection, sacrifice, and other things related to the parabatai bond and love is the central experience of this gender. One may feel like their gender is associated with the emotional aspects of the parabatai bond, or they may feel as if they have a parabatai bond with their gender as it may feel extremely close and emotional to them.

The parabagender flag has a blue and red color scheme because blues, especially deep blues, are the traditional colors associated with deep emotions and loyalty, and reds are typically associated with love and deep friendship. The symbol on the flag is the parabatai rune given to parabatai in the ceremony where they officially bond.
