Painsexual is an aro-spec identity in which someone's romantic attraction causes physical and/or mental pain. It can also mean when an individual's romantic attraction is affected and influenced by unwilling pain. An example of this second definition is when someone's romantic attraction changes from aromantic, to demiromantic or even alloromantic when experiencing pain, but changes back to aromantic when no longer experiencing pain, or their romantic attraction stays the same until experiencing pain again.
