'''Ottergender''' is a [[xenogender]] used by those who strongly identify with otters, or those who want to incorporate them into their gender. It is intended for use by autistic people, and can be a kingender or a delusogender, but doesn't have to be. It is associated with the sounds of otters squeaking, the feeling of damp/wet fluffy fur, and the twitching of whiskers.

Ottergender is a xenogender used by those who strongly identify with otters, or those who want to incorporate them into their gender. It is intended for use by autistic people, and can be a kingender or a delusogender, but doesn't have to be. It is associated with the sounds of otters squeaking, the feeling of damp/wet fluffy fur, and the twitching of whiskers.

    History

The term was re-coined by Twitter users kirbapy and transbede on August 13, 2021.[1] It was also posted on their joint Tumblr blog, cheeryfairygender, the next day.[2] It's intended to be a re-coining of the term coined by Twitter user bangers_ntrash on November 25, 2020.[3] They said it was because the original coiner didn't give the term "a proper definition," but it was a xenogender based on otters that was meant to be inclusive, as the coiner said that individuals "can use it however they like."

    Flag

The recoined ottergender flag was created by Twitter user kirbaby. Dark brown represents otters in general/as a whole and their influence on gender. Brown represents otter-related traits such as squeaking, social behaviors of otters, whiskers, fur, and anything else that might influence the "feeling" of the gender. Light brown represents being transgender and/or nonbinary and those communities. White represents autism, kin, and/or delusions affecting one's gender, and any other possible influences on this gender. Blue represents potential connections to things like the sea, ocean, or rivers and other bodies of water, as well as overall habitat and the life of an otter to the gender.[4]
