Noerossexual is an orientation on the asexual spectrum to describe an attraction exclusively to people with whom has formed a strong mental bond. A very similar, but non-potentially-controversial version of this term is encephalosexual.
History
Noerosexual was coined by reddit user u/Jovian260, 21st April 2021.[1] It was inspired by demisexuality, and may be seen as a demisexual counterpart to noetisexual. The term is derived from "noeros" which is Greek for "mental".[2]
Flag
The noerosexual flag was created by reddit user u/Jovian260, 21st April 2021. Green represents mental heath, blue represents the mind, yellow represents intellect, and red was chosen as it stimulates the body and mind.[3]
Controversy
Cw: Invalidation of identities.
This term may be viewed as potentially-controversial as its coiner repeatedly expressed that they do not see the term as valid: the first line of the description of r/noerossexuality is currently, "(This is a made up sexuality, so no this is not valid)", and they have stated that the term is "not a valid sexuality, not yet at least".[4]. They have also expressed some sentiments that may be perceived as mocking/invalidating identities such as dreamsexual[5] (and listed dreamsexual in a post alongside MAPs titled "Me dissing the other invalid sexualities"), which may be interpreted as implying that the coiner also views noerosexuality as belonging to this category.[6]
