Mosaic Flag and Symbol

Mosaic is a gender identity under the Non-Binary umbrella term of feeling a mixture of masculine and feminine, as well as the Xenogender umbrella. You do not need to be Transgender to be Mosaic, but it can share similar feelings with the desire to transition. People who are Mosaic can be happy without transitioning and have no feeling to do so, while others can fall into both Trans and Mosaic.

Someone who is Mosaic would identify as the feeling of being born intersex without actually being born so. This gender is based on individuals who wish they were born intersex or relate to the concept of intersex. This can vary from simple genetic makeup of one's sex chromosomes, to one's hormone levels, to their genitalia being a combination of both male and female functional organs, or a combination of all of them. One does not need to feel specifically masculine or feminine or a combination of both, rather it's the feeling of being this gender in a spiritual form: One's soul or mind is intersex, while their body differs genetically, causing distress.

In the form of Xenogender, it is the feeling of connection to the myth of Hermaphriditus (god of androgyny, effeminate people, and intersex), the son of Aphrodite and Hermes, who was fused with the nymph Salmacis to become "two-sexed" as he was called. One feels the story of that God relates to them, they are that myth or share very close ties to that myth. It's the feeling of one's soul being a fusion of two beings, one masculine/feminine/netural/xenic, and the other being different. For example, if someone feels their soul has a masculine portion, it can be fused with a xenic portion or feminine portion and so on.

When describing oneself, Mosaics can fall into different categories (if you wish to expand on these, please do so):

• If one wishes to transition to represent the combination of both male and female aspects, they can describe themselves as Trans-mosaic or Salmosaic (a combination of Salmacian and Mosaic).
• If one has a feeling that their genetic makeup itself should be mosaic in nature without the desire to transition, they could call themselves Geno-mosaic.

History

The term and usage of this gender was coined by the user ThrownawayCoffeeMug in 2021.

The word 'Mosaic' is based off of the term 'Mosaicism', a genetic phenomena where the chromosomes of an animal/plant/human/etc. is different throughout its body. An example of this is the calico cat: their fur is multiple colors in various patches throughout the body. These fur colors are due to the chromosomes that indicate which color the cat's fur should be are different in different portions of the body, creating a mosaic look to the cat, hence the term 'Mosaicism'. Mosaic indicates its relation to genetic combinations that can happen and the feeling of wanting a combination different from their own.

Flag and Symbols

The flag was created in 2021 by user ThrownawayCoffeeMug. The symbol is a combination of both the male and female symbols, indicating the combination of both binary genders. The symbol is also mixed with the symbol for Mercury, which was the old symbol for the mixture of feminine and masculine features. It also represents the god Hermaphriditus. The 4 dots represent the phases of life. The top indicates who you are, and the side three indicate past, present, future. In the center is the symbol for Xenogender.

The colors and their meanings are as follows:

Purple: the varying shades/tints represent the various feelings of in-between one can have, from shallow to deep. It can be a simple physical feeling one has of their body, to a more complex spiritual feeling, and anything in between.

Grey: the unknown form of gender, an ever encompassing sea that changes from person to person, making it a unique, individual experience for everyone.

Black: the portion of gender that is neutral, a color that goes with every other color with ease and compliment. It's the lack of feeling overly masculine or feminine, rather it's the mix of both, the lack of feeling either, or even a fluctuation between the two.

I am nervous creating this page, but I do really hope this makes sense and is something other people can be happy with. I personally created this term as no other label truly fit me, but this finally explains who I am, what I am, and what I wish to be.
