Gendergas refers to when a genderfluid or fluidflux person's gender changes so rapidly and confusingly that the person cannot keep up with it and their gender feels like a fleeting gas or mist whose many particles fly around everywhere and don't settle down. It can, but does not have to be, triggered by instances such as:

    - Overthinking

    - Mood swings

    - Stress

    - Confusion

    - An exciting or upsetting experience

    - PTSD, trauma or anxiety attacks

    - Certain states of mind

It can also possibly occur to system alters due to side effects of their plurality.

Gendergas does not usually refer to an own gender identity, but rather as a modifier to ones current gender experience or to describe a certain event or occurence, for example: "I was so happy in that moment that I became gendergas for a while."

Please note that this term is not exclusive to disabled or neurodivergent people, but can be used by anyone who experiences the state described above.

Important to know is also that feeling gendergas does not have to be a negative experience. It can also feel like an adventure or like suddenly acquiring a collection of many interesting and comfortable genders.

    History

Gendergas was coined by Wiki user WasabiBuns on June 20th, 2021.

It originated from a conversation on the LGBTQA+ Wiki Discord server on June 17th, 2021, where a user humorously asked several genderfluid people at what temperature their gender would become "gender solid" or "gender gas". This referred to a genderfluid person's gender being a "gender liquid" in a funny and non-insulting, non-invalidating way.

WasabiBuns later decided to give both gendergas and gendersolid an actual meaning related to faer own experience with faer genderfluidity.
