The colors of the Flutegender flag have different meanings.
The flutegender flag has five stripes: a grey stripe, a light silver stripe, a white stripe, a light orange-gold stripe, and a dark orange-gold stripe. Grey represents nickel, silver, and brass, which is what flutes are usually made of. Light silver represents high pitch, as flutes can play up the three octaves higher than the middle octave C (C4). White represents melodies, which is usually what the flute plays. Light orange-gold represents trills and slurs, which are usually associated to flutes. And dark orange-gold represents that flutes can actually play really low too. Flutes can play down to C7, and ones with foot joints can play one note lower than it.

Flutegender describes a xenogender that strongly identifies with one's own flutes, identifies with flutes in general, or wants to include flutes into their gender. Flutegender also involves recorders, piccolos, or any other wind instruments.

Despite the fact that flutes are often considered feminine, anyone can be flutegender.

    History

The term was coined by Cody Rosel, a Tumblr user, on February 26, 2021, to represent how much flutes, and other types of woodwinds similar to the flute, such as piccolos, made an impact on his life.

    Flag
