Faidean is a term for someone whose gender presentation is important to their core identity, but is not and cannot be defined by any other presentation labels like feminine or androgynous because, even though they may technically present in those ways, because there's a disconnect between gendered labels and their gender presentation. This is either due to the fact that their gender presentation feels much more like an intrinsic part of who they are, a core feeling, and not simply a gendered term, or to the fact that they just feel a great disconnect between gender presentation and gendered terms.
For example, someone's presentation may technically be defined as femme or as futch, but they feel a complete and genuine disconnect from those terms, even though they technically fit. Their gender presentation is definite and important to them, but not in the sense of gender, but of self- they feel beyond and simply separate from any and all forms of gendered labels when it comes to presentation because that part of their identity doesn't feel like an outer, gendered label, just like an intrinsic and undying part of their core self.
Faidean is a term for gender presentation, not gender identity and/or alignment. Someone who's faidean may feel similarly about their gender identity/alignment to how they feel about their presentation, but they don't have to.
History
The term 'faidean' was coined on March 19, 2021, by LGBTA Wiki user Reign of the breadsticcs. They designed the flag a day later.
Etymology
The term 'faidean' comes from the Irish term 'nois faide' meaning 'beyond'.
Flag
The pastel rainbow spectrums on the flag represent the gender presentation spectrum- orange for xenine presentation, yellow for outherine presentation, green for neutral/null presentation, blue for masc presentation, purple for androgynous presentation, and pink for fem presentation. The spectrums are on the flag because they represent how faidean people may still have gender presentations that fit into those categories, but those spectrums are on the outsides of the flag to represent how faidean people reject those labels. The large middle stripe represents the combination of gender-non conformity (often associated with purple) and pure self (often associated with white). It represents how falling outside of gendered presentation terms is an intrinsic part of who they are (hence it being in the middle of the flag, it's the core of who someone is). The two thin black stripes between the rainbow spectrums and the central stripe represent the impenetrable disconnect between one's innate core and gender presentation, and gendered terms used to describe presentation.
