Ehlasrean is a term for someone whose gender identity is both genderflux and genderfluid, but is not fluidflux, because the part of their gender identity that is genderflux isn't genderfluid, and the part of their identity that is genderfluid isn't genderflux. That means that they are fluid between different genders or a different set of genders than the ones through which they fluctuate. For example, someone could be girlflux and the other part of their gender identity could be fluid between xenrell and maverique. They would be both genderfluid and genderflux, but since they experience those identities separately instead of in tandem with each other, they wouldn't necessarily be fluidflux and could instead identify with this term instead.

Just because an individual may experience their genderfluidity and their gender fluctuation in different parts of their identity doesn't mean that those parts feel isolated or unrelated to each other. They may just generally feel related and entertwined despite being separate, or they may feel like they're directly entertwined: one part of their gender identity is separate from but still affects the other. In the case of the latter, one may feel like a fluctuation in one part of their gender affects the fluidity in the other part of their gender. For example, someone who is ehlasrean may feel that fluctuating from agender to paragender might trigger the fluid part of their gender to flow or "switch" to another gender.

If an ehlasrean individual feels none of those things and instead feels that the genderfluid and genderflux parts of their identity are completely isolated and never "interact" with or affect each other, they may also identify as genderduplex with one part being genderfluid and the other being genderfluid (as long as they don't also have any additional parts to their identity, as genderduplex is exactly two distinct parts to one's gender identity). Ehlasrean individuals may also identify as demigender because the two parts to their identity are not the whole of their identity and therefore partial.

Etymology

The term 'ehlasrean' is derived from two words: the Zulu term 'ehla enyaka' meaning 'fluctuate', and the Irish word 'sreabhach' meaning 'fluid'.

History

Ehlasrean was coined on a blog post by FANDOM user Chasing Rainbowss on March 7, 2021.

Flag

The flag was created the same day by the same user and is a combination of the genderfluid and genderflux flags separated by a black stripe to represent the distinction between the two parts of an ehlasrean individual's gender identity.

The fading pink shows how ones base gender can fluctuate and represents fingenders, the fading blue represents the same thing as the pink does except it's for mingenders, the white represents any other gender that could be ones base gender, and the genderfluid circle shows how ones second gender is fluid.
