Demiflexible is a term under the a-spec umbrella used to describe someone who is mostly demisexual or demiromantic, but occasionally feels attraction to someone who they do not have an emotional connection to. This term can be used to describe sexual attraction, romantic attraction, or both.
People who use the term demiflexible may have any gender, and may experience attraction to any gender. People who identify with the the sexual version may have any romantic orientation, and people who identify with the romantic version may have any sexual orientation. They also may feel other forms of attraction.
History
The term demiflexible was coined in May 2021 by reddit user u/wingsoverpyrrhia[1] along with the first demiflexible flags [2]. it is unknown if the term had been coined earlier, but this was the first notable mention of this orientation.
Flag
The demiflexible flag is shown to be a demisexual/demiromantic flag with an allosexual/alloromantic stripe down the middle, showing that the person using this term is mostly demisexual/demiromantic, but sometimes is attracted to people without an emotional connection, hence the small allosexual/alloromantic stripe down the middle.
Etymology
The prefix demi- means half or partial. The prefix is also used in words such as demigod.
