Ambonec (shortened to AN) is a gender in which one is female, male, and neither, at the same time.
There are two interpretations of ambonec:
- That one is trigender, with the genders being male, female, and something that is neither such as agender, maverique, neutrois, or another non-binary gender.
- That one's gender is paradoxical, so one feels like they're male and female, but at the same time feels like they're neither.
One can also be demi-ambonec, meaning there could be circumstances where it changes.
History
The term ambonec was coined by Tumblr user transmalenaoto (originally Tumblr user nbshadow), who is now deactivated, sometime before August 12, 2014[1][2]. It is not known who created the flags, and there are no known meanings for them.

- Latin ambo, meaning "both"
- Latin nec, meaning "neither
