Alio or Ali is an a-spec term that refers to people who are not on the aroace spectrum. It describes someone who is allosexual, alloromantic, or both meaning they regularly experience romantic attraction and/or sexual attraction to others. Like allosexual and alloromantic, alio is not necessarily a sexual identity in itself. It is a term created to describe those who are not aroace.

    History

Ali was coined September 20th 2020 by reddit user CreateorMateor205,[1] citing the difficulty in talking about people who were specifically not aroace. Alloromantic allosexual was called too unwieldy and did not include aspecs who were not aroace such as alloaros and alloaces. Alloallo was said to sound too childish and allo alone was too ambiguous.

CreateorMateor205 suggested taking inspiration from terms the asexual community considered before settling on the term allosexual. Alisexual and allosexual both have prefixes meaning “other or different” . Alisexual was considered for its similarity to allosexual and its simplicity. The -sexual suffix was dropped to show that romantic attraction was included as well.
