Acarnal is a term under the ARCsexual umbrella. It is another word for sex-indifferent or sex neutral, meaning someone who has no strong feelings about sex, either positive or negative. The term sex-indifferent is commonly associated with the asexual community. The term acarnal can be used by asexuals and by sex-indifferent allosexuals.

    History

Acarnal has been used since December 14, 2014 alongside other ARCsexual identities.[1] It is currently unknown when acarnal was coined and the coiner is also unknown.

    Flag

The flag was designed by Mod Fy on Tumblr account beyond-mogai-pride-flags on January 15, 2018. The flag was originally made to be used for sex-indifferent,[2] but since acarnal and sex-neutral share a definition, it's also used here. The flag's color meanings are currently unknown, but it can be assumed that the purple on the flag represents lack of sexual attraction; a common theme in ace-spec flags.[3]

An alternate acarnal flag was made by ElderflowerJuice on September 3rd, 2021. It is represented by a symbol of Hephaestus.
