Sungender is a xenogender that is most often described as "warm and happy".[1] It can also be a feeling of having a general connection with the sun or daytime.
Some also describe this gender as having a masculine energy, due to the sun's association with masculinity in some traditions, though this doesn't necessarily apply to everyone who identifies as sungender.
History
It is unknown when sungender was first coined or who coined it, but its first known mention online was on March 2nd, 2017.[2] Tumblr user mogai-watch published a poem using its definition on June 9th, 2018.[3]
Flags
The first sungender flag was designed by Tumblr user mogai-flag-central on December 23rd, 2018.[4] It features orange and yellow colors with a bright light in the center representing the sun.
Another sungender flag was made by Tumblr user daydreamoceans on March 14th, 2020.[5] It features a simpler sun symbol and a diamond pattern bands instead of horizontal stripes. The symbol and flag template were made by Tumblr user neopronouns.
Another alternative sungender flag was made by Twitter user AtomicCatStuff March 9th, 2022.[6] It features a more simplistic design with only 2 colors and no stripes, with a sole geometric symbol in the center representing the sun. The center symbol featuring a circle with a dot also resembles the alchemical symbol for the Sun and gold (☉).[7]
