A Simulship is a term for people who have queerplatonic attraction toward each other, but do not wish to be in a queerplatonic relationship, rather to be close to someone in a queerplatonic way. This could be due to a number of reasons, some of which are listed below, but are not limited to that.
- One or more of the individuals in the simulship are not comfortable with either the label or the concept of a relationship
- One feels as though the term relationship does not describe how they wish to be close to others
- The term relationship feels too intimate
- Any number of other reasons, or a mixture of multiple
In many cases, a simulship will lean toward the platonic end of the queerplatonic spectrum, but this does not apply to all cases.
Simulship can be used as a substitute for the word relationship, or as a type of attraction.
Etymology
The prefix simul- is derived from the latin word simul, meaning together.
