Simigender represents individuals who don't necessarily feel like they are completely binary trans, but prefer to be perceived as the binary gender opposite their AGAB rather than as cisgender or non-binary.
Some examples of this are:
- An AMAB person who does not identify as binary male or female but chooses to present outwardly as female, leaving the more nuanced details of their identity to be shared only with the people they choose.
- Someone who is AFAB and does not fully feel they are a binary transgender man, but prefers to be referred to and perceived as male rather than female in the majority of interactions.
- A non-binary person who feels unsafe and/or uncomfortable presenting androgynously, neutrally, or in a way that aligns more with their internal experience of gender; this may be due to an unsafe environment, a desire to ward off potential discrimination, or because they simply find it less stressful to "blend in" as a binary person.
- Someone who experiences dysphoria surrounding their AGAB and chooses to transition medically, but does not necessarily feel like their internal identity completely matches the binary gender they transition towards.
History
The term was coined on August 19th, 2022 by u/serromani.
They designed the original two versions of the flag, but fully support and prefer the redesigned versions that u/Agreeable-Finish-376 created and shared two days later.

Both original flags were made by u/serromani.[1]
The yellow and green stripes represent feeling nonbinary on the inside (as well as white in the version that included it), then transitioning to more traditional binary colors on the outside to represent presenting outwardly more in line with those genders - in order to be perceived as closer to the preferred binary.
