Shadowgay is the umbrella term for shadowlesbian, shadowturian, and shadowenbian, as well as any other queer shadow- labels. Includes and trans/nonbinary people who feels semi-connection to a certain label despite dysphoria or not being the gender the label usually pertains to. Being _LW; _LM; _LNB and/or _LX, etc., and feeling attraction to that same/similar gender but not necessarily being that gender or being dysphoric about being considered that gender.
It also includes those whose orientation is fluid and/or flux. They may not 100% identify with certain labels due to not being those labels often, or may have a disconnect with the labels. This also includes labels that where one's attraction is fluid between queer and queern't, or can be considered both queer and queern't together.[1]
History
The shadow- orientations (shadowlesbian, shadowgay, and shadowturian) were first coined by Tumblr user ashix0trender0juice on 19 July 2020, with shadowenbian and shadowstraight being coined later. The flags were made around the same time. The blog has been deleted, but the user remade as sir-eldritch. The flags were also redesigned and posted on 27 June 2022.[1]
A redesign of the shadow- flags were created by Tumblr user thepokedexisgay. The shadowgay redesign was posted 28 February 2021.[2]
